Are You CPA Bound?
Those of you who have obtained certification have joined an exclusive club of African-American accounting, finance and information technology professionals. To increase the membership in this club, NABA along with The Howard University School of Business Center for Accounting Education (HUSB-CAE) developed the CPA Bound Initiative with four program components:
– a focus on information gathering and sharing. NABA will provide to its membership and the general public information on resources and requirements to obtain the CPA. Look for links to peer organizations from the NABA Web site – coming soon.
(Jointly sponsored by NABA and the Howard University School of Business CAE) – held at the 2009 national convention, NABA will convene a summit to discuss barriers to passing the CPA exam. Summit participants will include representatives from public accounting , industry, academia, CPA examination preparation companies, state societies, NABA and the AICPA.
– Outreach should begin early. Through its Accounting Careers Awareness Program (ACAP), local and regional student and professional meetings and the HUSB-CAE Leadership Skills Development Program for College Accounting Seniors, NABA will raise the awareness of the need for more African-American CPAs and the rewards that having the certification can bring.
- CPA Examination Boot Camp
– The Howard University School of Business Center for Accounting Education (HUSB-CAE) and Becker CPA Review have entered into a partnership to provide a superior CPA review course for recent college graduates. This intensive 7-week course will be held on the campus of Howard University from May 18th to July 1st. At the completion of the course, the hope is that each participant will sit for the exam as soon as possible so that they will become certified prior to the start of busy season.
The CPA is a highly regarded professional designation. The following links provide information on how to become a Certified Public Accountant. |
